How to make a GST invoice here

  1. Choose the document โ€” Tax Invoice, Bill of Supply, Quotation or Export Invoice (see below).
  2. Fill in your business once โ€” name, address, GSTIN and state. Typing the GSTIN fills in the state for you, and your details are remembered on this device for next time.
  3. Add the customer โ€” name, address, their GSTIN if they are registered, and their state.
  4. Add the items โ€” description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate and GST %. Quantities can be decimals, like 1.5 tons.
  5. Check the totals โ€” the tax split, round-off and the amount in words are added automatically.
  6. Print or save as PDF โ€” choose "Save as PDF" in the print window to email or WhatsApp it. The next invoice number follows on from the last one.

CGST + SGST or IGST โ€” picked for you

Which tax goes on the invoice depends on where your customer is, and the invoice works it out from the two states you enter:

โ‚น10,000 sale at 18%Tax on the invoice
Customer in your own stateCGST 9% โ‚น900 + SGST 9% โ‚น900
Customer in another stateIGST 18% โ‚น1,800

The customer pays โ‚น11,800 either way โ€” the split only decides which government gets the tax. If you sell items at different rates, each rate gets its own lines.

What a GST tax invoice must show

The details a tax invoice has to carry are set out in Rule 46 of the CGST Rules. Here is what they are in plain language, and how this tool handles each:

Required on the invoiceIn this tool
Your name, address and GSTINโœ“ Saved once, filled in every time
An invoice number โ€” in sequence, unique within the financial year, up to 16 characters (letters, numbers, - or /)โœ“ Numbers itself and continues from your last invoice
Date of issueโœ“ Today by default
Customer's name, address, and GSTIN if they are registeredโœ“
HSN code for goods, SAC for servicesโœ“ You enter the code
Description, quantity and unitโœ“ Write the unit in the description, e.g. "Cement (50 kg bag)"
Taxable value, after any discountโœ“ Enter the rate after discount โ€” there is no separate discount column yet
GST rate and amount โ€” CGST + SGST, or IGSTโœ“ Worked out for you
Place of supply, with the state nameโœ“ From the customer's state
Whether tax is payable on reverse chargeโœ— Not yet โ€” add it by hand if it applies
Delivery address, if different from the billing addressโœ— Not yet
Signature of the supplier or an authorised personโœ“ A signature line is printed for you to sign

How many digits of HSN code?

It depends on your turnover in the previous financial year. Up to โ‚น5 crore, a 4-digit HSN code is required on invoices to registered businesses. Above โ‚น5 crore, a 6-digit code is required on all tax invoices.

Which document do you need?

Pick the document type at the top of the invoice maker. Each one prints with the heading and wording it needs:

  • Tax Invoice โ€” for a registered business charging GST. CGST + SGST or IGST is added for you.
  • Bill of Supply โ€” for a business on the composition scheme, or one selling only exempt goods or services. No GST is charged. If you are a composition dealer, it adds the line the rules require at the top: "Composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies". Bill of supply format and rules.
  • Quotation โ€” a price estimate before a sale, with GST shown so the customer sees the full price, and a "valid until" date. It is not a tax invoice, so it has its own number series (QTN-0001โ€ฆ) and doesn't use up your invoice numbers.
  • Export Invoice (under LUT) โ€” for goods or services sold to a customer outside India, when you have filed a Letter of Undertaking. No IGST is charged; it prints "Supply meant for export under LUT without payment of IGST" and your LUT reference number. Amounts are in rupees.

Not covered

  • Not registered for GST โ€” you cannot charge GST. Use a Tax Invoice with your GSTIN left blank (the heading then reads "Invoice") and set every item to 0%.
  • Turnover above โ‚น5 crore โ€” invoices to other businesses must be e-invoices, registered on the government's invoice portal to get an IRN and QR code. This tool cannot do that; use the portal or your accounting software.

Your data stays on your device

Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Your business details are saved in your own browser so you do not have to retype them, and nothing else is stored. The Clear my details link removes them โ€” worth using on a shared or office computer. Clearing your browser data removes them too.

Frequently asked

Is it really free?

Yes. No signup, no limit on the number of invoices, and no watermark beyond a small "Made with gstcalc.in" line at the bottom of the page.

How do I save the invoice as a PDF?

Click Print Invoice and choose Save as PDF as the printer. On a phone, use the Share or Print option and pick Save as PDF. The invoice fits on a single A4 page for a normal number of items.

Will the invoice be in Hindi if I use the Hindi version?

The form is in Hindi on the Hindi page, but the printed invoice and the amount in words stay in English, as Indian tax invoices almost always are.

Which GST rate should I use for an item?

Search the item on the calculator or look it up in the full GST rate list, which is updated for the 2025 rate changes.

Before you rely on this

This tool helps you prepare an invoice; it is not accounting software and does not file anything. You remain responsible for the details on your invoices. For a specific compliance question โ€” reverse charge, e-invoicing or exports โ€” confirm against the CBIC rules or ask a qualified tax professional. If something here looks wrong, tell us.
